Pittsburgh Penguins vs Vegas Golden Knights: a 6-2 first meeting and a Vegas back-to-back NHL

Vegas beat Pittsburgh 6-2 at T-Mobile Arena on 17 October, with six different scorers: Mark Stone, Trevor Connelly, Theodore, Andersson, Brett Howden and Hanifin. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin scored for the Penguins, and Adin Hill made 22 saves on 24 shots.

The rematch is on Tuesday 3 November at PPG Paints Arena, puck drop 7pm ET. Vegas is 9-5-1 with 19 points and second in the Pacific Division. Pittsburgh is 5-6-2 with 12 points and sixth in the Metropolitan, but it’s 4-1-1 at home.

The schedule is the main reason this game looks different from the first one. Vegas plays in Boston on Monday and flies to Pittsburgh for the second night of a back-to-back. The Penguins play in Montreal on Saturday and then have two days off.

Vegas has also cooled since that October win. The Golden Knights are 1-3-1 in their last five games, with a 6-2 home loss to Tampa Bay, a 6-2 defeat in St. Louis, a 2-1 overtime loss in Columbus and a 5-2 home loss to New Jersey on 30 October. The only win in that run was 4-1 against Ottawa.

The two meetings last season were split. Pittsburgh won 5-0 at home on 1 March 2026, with Arturs Silovs stopping all 22 shots, and Vegas won 6-2 at home on 12 March.

Silovs is still Pittsburgh’s main goaltender this season, and the Penguins were priced around 2.25 at home for that March game. We expect a similar price on Tuesday once the back-to-back is factored in.

Pittsburgh Penguins: 4-1-1 at home and Karlsson running the offense from the blue line Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh’s home results read better than its overall record. The Penguins beat Montreal 6-5 in overtime, Dallas in a shootout, Florida 4-0 and Nashville 3-2 in overtime at PPG Paints Arena. The losses were 3-2 to Winnipeg and 4-3 in overtime to Utah on 29 October.

Erik Karlsson leads the team with 13 points, on 2 goals and 11 assists. Malkin has 6 goals and 11 points, Nicholas Robertson has 6 goals, and Crosby has 7 points. Pittsburgh has scored 42 goals and allowed 43.

The season opened with a 7-0 win in Philadelphia on 30 September, and the scoring has been uneven since then. Pittsburgh has been held to two goals or fewer in five of its 13 games, but it has also shut out Florida 4-0 at home, and Malkin and Crosby were the two scorers in the October loss in Vegas.

Bryan Rust is out until around early December with a lower-body injury he picked up on 19 October. Under head coach Dan Muse, Thomas Novak moved up to the top line with Crosby and Rickard Rakell, and Novak has 8 points.

Silovs is 5-3-1 with a 2.98 goals-against average and an .889 save percentage. Sergei Murashov has lost all four of his appearances, going 0-3-1, and he was in goal for the 6-2 defeat in Vegas.

The penalty kill has stopped 84.38% of opposing power plays, a useful number against a Vegas unit converting at 27.27%. Justin Brazeau is expected back around 3 November and Trevor van Riemsdyk around 5 November, while Ryan Graves remains on injured reserve.

Vegas Golden Knights: 1-3-1 in five games, with a 69% penalty kill Vegas Golden Knights

Vegas’s penalty kill has stopped 69.44% of opposing chances, and it’s the main reason the Golden Knights have conceded six goals twice in their last five games. Their power play has been far better, at 27.27%.

Jack Eichel leads the team with 20 points, on 7 goals and 13 assists. Stone has 9 goals and 17 points, Mitch Marner 15 points, mostly assists, and Ivan Barbashev 11. Vegas has scored 52 and allowed 44 overall.

Ryan Craig took over as head coach in June after being promoted from the AHL to replace John Tortorella. His team started 8-2-0 before the current run of one win in five.

The goaltending has been close to level between the two options. Hill is 5-2-0 with a 2.84 goals-against average and an .891 save percentage, and Carter Hart is 4-3-1 at 2.76 and .889. Hart only returned as the backup on 30 October after a lower-body injury, so the back-to-back will likely be split between them.

On the road Vegas is 3-2-1, with wins in Vancouver, Seattle and Nashville. Defenseman Parker Wotherspoon is on injured reserve and isn’t expected back before 8 November.

Probable lineup Pittsburgh Penguins: Not announced at time of publication (Arturs Silovs has started 9 of 13 games in goal)
Probable lineup Vegas Golden Knights: Not announced at time of publication (second night of a back-to-back; Adin Hill or Carter Hart in goal)

Our prediction: Pittsburgh Penguins to win

We’re taking Pittsburgh. The Penguins are 4-1-1 at home and will have two days of rest, while Vegas plays the night before in Boston and has won once in five games with a penalty kill below 70%.

The seven-point gap in the standings and the 6-2 result in October count against the pick. That game was in Las Vegas with Murashov in goal, though, and Pittsburgh has lost once in regulation at home all season.

No line was available at the time of writing. With Vegas likely to be the road favorite on reputation, we expect Pittsburgh above 2.00, which is the price that makes the pick worth playing.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.

Your responsibility

Before placing a bet, simply check that gambling is legal in your country. If it isn’t, that’s your responsibility, not ours.
