Florida Panthers vs Detroit Red Wings: Larkin suspended, and a Detroit penalty kill at 66.7%
Dylan Larkin told the Red Wings on October 29 that he would no longer play for them, and Detroit suspended its former captain without pay the same day. The team says he won’t suit up again until he’s traded, which means the Red Wings travel to Florida on Monday without a center who requested a move in June and was stripped of the captaincy in September.
The puck drops at 7:00pm ET at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise on Monday 2 November, the first of four meetings between the teams this season. Florida is 8-4-2 with 18 points, third in the Atlantic. Detroit is 6-4-3 with 15 points and sits last in the division, tied with Buffalo, before Saturday’s home game against St. Louis.
The Red Wings’ results have actually improved through the noise. They’ve taken points in eight of their last nine games, going 5-1-3, and Viktor Arvidsson, who signed as a free agent on July 1, scored a hat trick in Thursday’s 4-1 win over Chicago.
Florida has found its level after a slow start. The Panthers have won three in a row, 3-2 at Chicago, 5-1 at Winnipeg and 5-2 at home to the Jets on Friday, when Anton Lundell scored a hat trick and Florida outshot Winnipeg 38-24.
The schedule tilts toward the home team. Florida has two days off after Friday’s game, while Detroit plays a Saturday matinee, travels on Sunday and then goes on to Tampa Bay for a game on Tuesday, so Monday is the first half of a road back-to-back.
Florida Panthers: three straight wins without Barkov or Marchand
Paul Maurice has been without his two most important forwards for most of the season. Aleksander Barkov hurt his left knee at San Jose on October 1, in his second game back after missing all of last season, and is out until late November. Brad Marchand went down with a left leg injury on October 6 after a high stick from Brandt Clarke and was given a six-week timeline.
The rest of the lineup has absorbed it. Matthew Tkachuk leads the team with 20 points, 16 of them assists, and Seth Jones has 18 points from the blue line. Brady Tkachuk, acquired from Ottawa on June 21 for four picks, has 8 goals and 15 points alongside his brother, and Carter Verhaeghe and Sam Reinhart have 8 and 7 goals respectively.
The power play is where Florida does most of its damage. It converts 24.2% and has 16 goals, and it went 3 for 5 in the win at Winnipeg on October 27, with Verhaeghe scoring twice. The penalty kill, at 84.8%, is one of the better units in the East.
Goaltending is the question. Jacob Markstrom, acquired from New Jersey on June 30, got hurt in practice and was announced on October 20 as out for 10 to 14 days, with an estimated return around November 3 or 4. Akira Schmid has started the recent run and is 5-2-1 with a 2.86 average and an .889 save percentage.
Florida’s defensive numbers are solid without being dominant. The Panthers score 3.14 goals a game and allow 2.79, and at home they’re 3-1-0. Jonah Gadjovich (upper body) is also on long-term injured reserve until late November.

Detroit Red Wings: points in eight of nine, but 14 power-play goals conceded
Detroit’s penalty kill is the number that matters most for Monday. It’s working at 66.7%, with 14 power-play goals allowed in 13 games, and it now faces a Florida unit that has scored 16. That’s the clearest mismatch on either side of this game.
The offense runs through two wingers. Alex DeBrincat has 15 points, 6 goals and 9 assists, and Arvidsson leads the team with 8 goals after Thursday’s hat trick. Lucas Raymond has 12 points and rookie Emmitt Finnie has added 5 goals, but the Red Wings average 2.69 goals per game, 25th in the league.
Todd McLellan has a thinner middle of the ice than at any point this season. Larkin is suspended, Marco Kasper (upper body) isn’t due back until mid-November and Mason Appleton is on injured reserve until around November 9. On defense Albert Johansson is out until around November 4, and Simon Edvinsson remains unsigned as a restricted free agent who wants a trade.
In goal, John Gibson has played most of the games and is 4-4-1 with a 3.15 average and an .874 save percentage. Daniil Tarasov has the better numbers, 1-0-2 with a 1.40 average and a .940 save percentage in four appearances, but he was listed day-to-day on October 29.
The road record is respectable at 2-1-2, and Detroit’s shootout wins over San Jose and at Edmonton show it can hang around in tight games. It also lost 4-1 at Calgary on October 24, its only regulation defeat away from home this season.

Free NHL Prediction: Florida Panthers vs Detroit Red Wings
Our prediction: Florida Panthers to win (moneyline), around 1.53
Florida has the rest advantage, the stronger special teams and three straight wins, and Detroit arrives without its top-line center and on the first night of a back-to-back. Early prices have the Panthers between 1.53 and 1.56, and I think that’s a fair number to take.
Detroit’s form is the honest counterpoint: eight of its last nine games have produced points, and it beat Florida 4-1 in Detroit in October 2025. Most of those points, though, came against teams without a power play of Florida’s quality, and a 66.7% penalty kill is a hard thing to hide over 60 minutes.
Last season’s series went 3-1 to Florida, including 4-3 and 8-1 wins in Sunrise. With Gibson’s .874 save percentage the likely last line of defense and Florida’s top unit getting four or five chances, we’d back the Panthers to win.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
