Elche vs Valencia: three straight league clean sheets against the league’s quietest attack La Liga

Danjuma last scored a league goal for Valencia on 30 September 2025. He has gone 32 La Liga games since without one, and he’s still the most likely starter at centre-forward when Valencia visit the Martínez Valero on Sunday 1 November, with kick-off at 17:30 UK time.

His drought sums up a wider problem. Ten games into the season, no Valencia player has more than one league goal. Hugo Duro, the club’s top scorer in each of the last three campaigns, hasn’t scored at all.

The table reflects it. Valencia are 19th on six points, with one win in ten, and only Málaga sit below them. Elche are 15th on ten points and four points clear, after a run that has turned their autumn around.

Martín Anselmi’s side haven’t conceded in their last three league games: 0-0 at home to Celta Vigo, 0-0 at Villarreal and 3-0 at Rayo Vallecano last Saturday. They also won 3-1 at UD Pinatar in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday with a heavily rotated team.

Valencia’s last league outing went the other way. They led Villarreal through a Pepelu penalty, conceded twice in the second half, the second of them in the 97th minute, and finished with ten men after Harvey Elliott’s second yellow card.

Javier Aguirre, who replaced Carlos Corberán, hasn’t won in three games in charge. The two sides met twice last season: 1-1 at Mestalla in January and 1-0 to Elche here in April.

Elche: two away wins and three league clean sheets in a row Elche

Elche’s results since mid-September show a side that has learned to defend. A 3-2 home defeat to Real Madrid was followed by a 3-1 win at Espanyol, and then by the three clean sheets in a row. Matías Dituro made several important saves in Vallecas, where Rayo also hit the bar from the spot.

The goals at Rayo came from Fede Redondo and Fer Niño, both from the penalty spot, and a lob from Germán Valera in the second half. Fer Niño has six league goals this season, Valera two.

The home record is the part we can’t ignore. Elche’s last five games at the Martínez Valero have produced one win, one draw and three defeats, with five goals scored and 11 conceded. Two of those defeats were 3-2 scorelines against Real Sociedad and Real Madrid.

Fer Niño trained with a lower-back problem this week and is a doubt, with Osorio the likely replacement if he doesn’t make it. Marc Aguado is out with an ankle injury. Lemar and Revivo both go into the weekend in form.

Elche finished 15th last season, one point above the drop. On ten points after ten games they’re ahead of that pace, and a win on Sunday would put seven points between them and Valencia.

Anselmi rotated heavily for the Copa tie at Pinatar, handing debuts to Iturbe and Lomónaco, and Ponce scored twice after the hosts had led through an 18th-minute goal. The regular starters will have had eight days’ rest since Rayo by the time Sunday comes round.

Valencia: one league win, an attack without a scorer and Elliott suspended Valencia

Valencia’s only league win came at Alavés in mid-September, 1-0. Since then they’ve lost 3-2 at home to Real Sociedad, drawn 2-2 at Racing Santander after leading, drawn 0-0 with Athletic and lost 2-1 to Villarreal. Earlier defeats at Sevilla (1-0) and at home to Barcelona (5-0) complete the start.

Aguirre took two points from his first nine. Local press in Valencia has described his position as under pressure already, and the next league game after Elche is Real Madrid at Mestalla on 7 November.

The team news has got worse since Saturday. Elliott is suspended after his red card, Otorbi went off injured inside 15 minutes against Villarreal, and Canós and Diego López are also out. Sadiq (hamstring), Foulquier and Copete are doubts.

Their away numbers are better than the table suggests: two wins, one draw and two defeats in their last five on the road, with eight goals scored and nine conceded. Those figures include matches from before Aguirre’s arrival, though, and his three games have brought three goals.

Valencia’s Copa del Rey tie against UE Tavernes was scheduled for Wednesday night, the evening on which the Spanish federation suspended its cup fixtures after a train accident near Toledo. Whatever happens there, Aguirre has four players unavailable and three more doubtful for Sunday.

Probable lineup Elche: Dituro; Sangaré, Chust, Redondo, Revivo; Morcillo, Villar; Cepeda, Lemar, Valera; Fer Niño
Probable lineup Valencia: Dimitrievski; Maffeo, Tárrega, De Haas, Gayà; Guido Rodríguez, Pepelu; Rioja, Javi Guerra, Raba; Danjuma

Our prediction: Elche to win at 2.45

Elche are unbeaten in four league games, with three clean sheets and two away wins in that run. Valencia have one league win from ten, a manager without a win, a suspension and no player with more than a single league goal. We back the home side.

The obvious objection is Elche’s home form: three defeats in their last five at the Martínez Valero. Two of them came against Real Madrid and Real Sociedad by a single goal, and the defence that conceded 11 at home has gone 270 league minutes without conceding.

At 2.45 Elche are priced close to a coin flip with a side that sits four points and four places below them. If Fer Niño is ruled out we’d still take the price, because the three goals at Rayo came from three different players.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
