Tennis: Sinner back in Six Kings Slam, Tien dropped

Sinner returns, Tien is out

Jannik Sinner is back in the Six Kings Slam field. Turki al-Sheikh, head of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, announced it on social media on Monday afternoon, writing that the star is returning to take part in the event. L’Équipe reports that American Learner Tien, who had been drafted in as his replacement, has been removed from the lineup.

Sinner, 25, is the two-time defending champion. He pulled out in early October and ended his season because of a right knee injury, and Tien, then ranked 17th, took the spot. The 20-year-old now loses it again.

A new date and a big cheque

The exhibition was scheduled for October 21 to 24 in Riyadh. It has been pushed back to December 27 to 30 because of deadly attacks by Yemen’s Houthis on Saudi Arabia, which is what opened the door for Sinner’s return. The original field also included Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Alex De Minaur and Taylor Fritz.

Every participant is guaranteed $1.5 million, and the winner takes a further $4.5 million, for $6 million in all. Tien, now dropped, misses out on that guaranteed payment.
