Everton vs Newcastle United: two blank Saturdays against a defence that has shipped 14
Everton have lost their last two Premier League games by the same score, 2-0 at home to Chelsea on 17 October and 2-0 at Arsenal on Saturday, where Konsa scored after seven minutes and Gabriel added the second on 68. Before that run, David Moyes’ side were unbeaten in the league, with two wins and four draws from six games.
Newcastle United are the visitors on Thursday 29 October for the last tie of the Carabao Cup fourth round, kick-off 7:45pm UK time at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, live on Sky Sports+. The winners reach the quarter-finals.
Everton still sit ninth with 10 points from eight games, and their defence has held up, with nine goals conceded. The problem is at the other end: eight league goals, and none in the last 180 minutes.
Newcastle went to Crystal Palace on Sunday 14th in the table, with eight points from seven games and 14 goals conceded. They’ve lost three of their last four league games, including 4-1 defeats at Leeds and Coventry, and they aren’t in Europe this season.
The two sides meet again at St James’ Park in the league shortly after this tie, which gives both managers a reason to think about rotation. Moyes said in August that “the cups are hugely important” to him.
Everton are around 2.15 to 2.25 to win, with Newcastle at 3.05 to 3.10 and the draw at 3.35 to 3.60. We side with the home team.
Everton: Barry with six goals, but the supply has stopped
Thierno Barry has six goals in all competitions, three in the league and three in the cup, the cup goals all coming in a hat-trick at Preston in the second round. He also scored the only goal against Ipswich on 19 September and one of the two in a 2-2 draw at Hull.
The third round was tighter. Everton beat Wolves 1-0 at home on 16 September, with Alcaraz scoring after 80 minutes. Johnson had also scored in the 4-0 win at Preston on 26 August.
Asked in August about rotating for the cup, Moyes said he had “not even thought about it”. The injury news after Arsenal wasn’t good. Mykolenko was forced off, and Moyes said he had “no idea” how serious it was. Branthwaite is going through concussion protocols, Grealish missed the trip to London through illness, and Ndiaye’s absence has been described as a big miss.
The record at home is mixed. Everton beat Ipswich and Wolves at the Hill Dickinson Stadium by a single goal, but Chelsea won 2-0 there on 17 October. Dewsbury-Hall has two league goals, one of them in the draw at Hull.
Recent meetings with Newcastle have been good for Everton. They won 3-2 at St James’ Park in February, with Branthwaite, Beto and Barry scoring, won 1-0 there in May 2025 and beat Newcastle 3-0 in this competition in December 2023. Newcastle’s 4-1 win at Everton in November 2025 is the exception.

Newcastle United: a rebuilt squad under Jaissle, and ten goals conceded in four league games
Matthias Jaissle took over in the summer and inherited a squad that lost several senior players. Gordon left for Barcelona, Tonali for Tottenham, Bruno Guimarães for Arsenal and Trippier for Wolves, while Woltemade went to Juventus on loan.
The arrivals included Touré, goalkeeper Horníček, Dedić, Nico González and Fernandez-Pardo. Barnes and Willock led the scoring in the early weeks, and Barnes has the most assists in the squad.
The league results since mid-September have been poor. Newcastle lost 4-1 at Leeds on 14 September, beat Hull 2-1 five days later, then lost 4-1 at Coventry on 12 October and 1-0 at home to Aston Villa on 17 October. That’s ten goals conceded in four league games, and the Hull game remains their last league win.
The cup path was narrow, with both wins by a single goal. Newcastle beat West Brom 3-2 at home in round two and won 1-0 at Millwall on 8 September.
The injury list is long. Elanga (hamstring) isn’t fit for 90 minutes and Ramsey (thigh) is only stepping up his return, while Livramento (knee) and Jaouen (thigh) are out and Fernandez-Pardo has been ill. Jaissle made five changes for the Palace game.

Free Football Prediction: Everton vs Newcastle United
Our prediction: Everton to win (2.15)
We’re backing Everton. Their defence has conceded nine goals in eight league games, Newcastle have conceded 14 in seven, and Everton have the better recent record in this fixture, with three wins from the last six meetings against one for Newcastle.
Newcastle’s two league trips since mid-September both ended in 4-1 defeats, at Leeds and Coventry. A squad that has lost Gordon, Tonali and Guimarães and is still missing Livramento and Elanga doesn’t look like one that travels well.
The worry is Everton’s scoring, with no goals in their last two games. The goals markets are close, with over 2.5 at 1.77 and both teams to score at 1.625, but we prefer the result. Against the defence that conceded four at both Leeds and Coventry, we think Barry gets chances, and Everton to win at 2.15 is our pick.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

Information changes
A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.
