Genoa vs Juventus: a coach under pressure and five league goals at the other end
“Do the players follow me? Until yesterday I thought so, today I don’t know.” Luciano Spalletti said that after Juventus lost 3-0 at home to Lazio on 18 October, and the Italian press has spent the week discussing whether he’ll still be in charge by November.
Juventus have won one of their last five Serie A games. They drew 1-1 with Milan, lost 3-2 at Sassuolo, beat Atalanta 2-0, drew 1-1 at Cagliari and then lost to Lazio. They sit on 11 points from seven matches, eight behind Inter and Lazio at the top.
Genoa are in a worse position. Daniele De Rossi’s side are 17th with four points from seven games, one of four teams on that total, and they’ve scored five league goals. They play Venezia, who are bottom, on Sunday before Juventus come to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Wednesday 28 October, kick-off 19:45 UK time.
Juventus also play on Sunday, away at Lecce, and host Napoli on 1 November. Rotation is likely on both sides, and both squads carry long injury lists.
The recent history of this fixture points one way. Genoa haven’t beaten Juventus since May 2022, they’ve failed to score in four of the last six meetings, and five of those six finished with fewer than three goals.
Bookmakers make Juventus favourites at 1.62, with the draw at 3.60 and Genoa at 5.50. We’re less interested in the winner than in the total, where the evidence from both teams lines up.
Genoa: one league win, and goals hard to come by
Genoa’s only league win came on 10 October, 2-1 at home to Fiorentina, when Osmajic scored after seven minutes and Messias added a second eight minutes later. Fiorentina’s goal was an own goal by Vasquez. Every other league game has ended in a draw or a defeat.
They’ve scored five goals in seven league matches, and Osmajic has three of them. At home the record reads one win, one draw and two defeats, with four scored and eight conceded, including a 4-1 loss to Como on 4 September and 2-0 against Napoli on the opening weekend.
The most recent outing was a 2-0 defeat in Rome on 17 October, with Castro and Lulli scoring for Roma. El Shaarawy hit the bar, and local reports praised Genoa’s start before the game drifted away from them.
De Rossi has been in charge since November 2025, when he replaced Vieira. His position was reported to be under threat in mid-September, before the club publicly backed him a week later. Sunday’s home game against Venezia, who have three points, carries more weight for his future than Wednesday’s.
The treatment room is busy. Venturino, Sow, Havel and Nuredini were still listed as unavailable on 20 October, while Colombo, signed from Milan in the summer, was aiming to make the bench this week. Ehizibue, Baldanzi and Traore are back in contention.

Juventus: better in Europe than in Serie A, with Woltemade still waiting for a league goal
Juventus are unbeaten in the Europa League, with wins over NEC Nijmegen (5-0) and Celta Vigo (2-1) and Thursday’s 2-2 draw with Rennes. Woltemade, on loan from Newcastle, has scored in all three of those games. He hasn’t scored in Serie A yet.
The league attack has been thin. Juventus have nine goals in seven matches, and Kolo Muani, signed from PSG, rescued the point at Cagliari with an 81st-minute equaliser. Spalletti said this week that Kolo Muani and Woltemade will play together, as they did against Rennes.
Away from Turin the league record is one win, one draw and one defeat, with four goals scored and four conceded. The win was 1-0 at Frosinone on the opening day, the draw came in Cagliari and the defeat was 3-2 at Sassuolo, where Sassuolo scored the winner in the 94th minute.
Injuries have cut into the squad. Conceicao dislocated a shoulder against Lazio and is expected to miss around a month, and Yildiz, K. Thuram and Locatelli were all listed as out before the Rennes game. Celik, who scored against Rennes, went off at half-time without an explanation from the club.
The summer spend was about €164m after a sixth-place finish last season. The 3-0 home defeat to Lazio, with goals from Provstgaard, Isaksen and Dele-Bashiru, is the main reason Spalletti’s position is being questioned.
Probable lineup Genoa: Bijlow; Otoa, Ostigard, Vasquez; Ehizibue, Frendrup, Traore, Ellertsson; Messias, El Shaarawy; Osmajic (subject to Sunday’s game against Venezia)
Probable lineup Juventus: Vicario; Kelly, Bremer, Gatti; Cambiaso, Koopmeiners, Douglas Luiz, Celik; McKennie; Woltemade, Kolo Muani (subject to Sunday’s game at Lecce)
Free Serie A Prediction: Genoa vs Juventus
Our prediction: Under 2.5 goals (1.95)
We’re taking the under. Genoa have scored five goals in seven league games, Juventus nine, and neither side’s away or home numbers suggest an open game: Genoa’s home matches average three goals, but two of those four games were against Como and Napoli, sides with far more attacking quality than this Juventus team has shown in Serie A.
The head-to-head supports it. The last six meetings finished 2-0, 1-0, 1-0, 3-0, 0-0 and 1-1, and Genoa failed to score in four of them. A Juventus win by a single goal or a low draw both land the bet.
The risk is a Juventus side finally finding its league scoring touch with Woltemade and Kolo Muani up front. Both teams play three days earlier, both have long injury lists, and at 1.95 we’d rather back a tight game than either team.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
