Konyaspor vs Genclerbirligi: a late own goal, a goal-shy home side and 16th against 15th
Genclerbirligi lost 1-0 at home to Galatasaray last weekend, and the only goal came off their own goalkeeper. Irfan Can Egribayat turned the ball into his own net in the 88th minute, and Bernd Storck’s first match in charge ended with nothing.
A week later Storck takes his side to Konya. Konyaspor host Genclerbirligi at the Konya Buyuksehir Belediye Stadium on Sunday 25 October, kick-off 13:00 UK time (16:00 in Turkey), in round nine of the Süper Lig. Konyaspor are 16th with five points from eight games, three behind Genclerbirligi in 15th.
The two teams have gone wrong at opposite ends of the pitch. Konyaspor have scored once in their last five league games, but they’ve kept three clean sheets in that run. Genclerbirligi have conceded 14 goals in their last five league matches and scored three.
Recent meetings lean towards the home side. Konyaspor won 1-0 in Konya on 19 March 2026 and 2-1 in Ankara on 26 October 2025, and they’re unbeaten in their last four league meetings with this opponent. The full record across 19 games is level: six wins each and seven draws.
Bookmakers have Konyaspor at 1.83, the draw at 3.40 and an away win at 4.00. I think that home price is fair, and my reason has more to do with the visitors’ defending than with anything Konyaspor do in attack.
Konyaspor: three clean sheets in five, but one league goal in the same run
Ilhan Palut’s side lost 1-0 at Amed SK on 17 October, beaten by a goal in the 86th minute. Before that came a 0-0 at home to Istanbul Basaksehir, a 0-0 at Kasimpasa and a 1-0 home win over Trabzonspor on 12 September.
That run sums up their season. They’ve scored three and conceded three in their last five matches in all competitions, and two of those goals came in a 2-2 friendly against Palestina on 30 September. In the league, the Trabzonspor win is the only time they’ve scored in five games.
Deniz Turuc leads the club’s league scorers with a single goal, and nobody else in the squad has more. Palut’s team defends first and tries to win by one, which is how they beat Trabzonspor.
The home record is poor too. Konyaspor have one win from their last five competitive matches in Konya, and it came after three straight home defeats, including a 2-1 loss to Kocaelispor.
Palut is short at the back. Adil Demirbag is out with a cruciate ligament injury and Ugurcan Yazgili is expected to miss the game with a muscle problem. Enis Destan is coming back from a knee injury, and midfielder Ibrahimoglu has been reported with a muscle injury as well.
He has picked the same starting XI for three games running, so the shape should stay familiar even with changes in defence: a back four, Jevtovic sitting in midfield and Muleka leading the line.

Genclerbirligi: 14 goals conceded in five league games and a manager two matches into the job
Storck replaced Metin Diyadin and lost his first game, the 1-0 against Galatasaray. Holding Galatasaray to one goal was a step forward for this back line, even if that goal went in off their own keeper.
The run before it was ugly. Genclerbirligi lost 5-0 at Trabzonspor on 6 September, 2-1 at home to Kasimpasa a week later and 4-0 at Istanbul Basaksehir on 19 September. A 2-2 home draw with Amed SK on 10 October is their only point from their last five league matches.
Away from Ankara the numbers are worse. They opened their away schedule with a 1-0 win at Goztepe, then let in nine goals in the next two league trips, at Trabzonspor and Basaksehir.
Going forward they’ve managed three goals in five league games, and two of those came in the draw with Amed. They didn’t score in the defeats to Galatasaray, Basaksehir or Trabzonspor.
The injury list is long. Pedro Pereira and Kevin Rodrigues are injured, Adama Traore and Cheikh Niasse are doubts with muscle problems, and Ogulcan Ulgun and Sekou Koita are uncertain. Oghenekaro Etebo has been left out of the squad for reasons unrelated to fitness.
The expected side has Diabate alone in front of the back four and Mendes as the only striker. Genclerbirligi have named the same XI for two matches running, and I’m not convinced a third start for this defence ends any differently against a side that sits as deep as Konyaspor.
Probable lineup Konyaspor: Gungordu; Baniya, Masuaku (two defenders to be confirmed, with Demirbag and Yazgili injured); Jevtovic; Turuc, Toth, Goncalves; Muleka
Probable lineup Genclerbirligi: Egribayat; Uzum, Baltaci, Goutas, Thalisson; Diabate; Luis, Ucan, Tongya, Gouveia; Mendes

Our prediction: Konyaspor to win (1.83)
I’d back Konyaspor to win. Genclerbirligi have conceded 14 goals in their last five league games and nine in their last two away from home, while Konyaspor have kept three clean sheets in their last five. A home side that defends like that doesn’t need many chances against a back line this open.
Konyaspor have one league goal in five matches and have lost three of their last five at home, so a 0-0 is a real possibility. Against that, they’ve won the last two meetings by a single goal, 1-0 in March and 2-1 last October, and one goal is all this bet needs.
Under 3.5 goals is priced at 1.28, too short to play on its own. The home win at 1.83 is the pick, most likely by 1-0.

About our free predictions
- What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
- Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
- The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
- A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
- Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
- Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.
