Lincoln City vs Burnley: no home win for Lincoln, no clean sheets for Burnley Championship

The last competitive meeting we can find between these clubs took place on 18 February 2017, when non-league Lincoln won 1-0 at Turf Moor in the fifth round of the FA Cup. Nine and a half years later, Burnley visit Lincoln on Saturday (3pm UK time) as the side below them in the Championship table.

Lincoln, League One champions last season, are 18th with 12 points from 11 games: three wins, three draws and five defeats, with a goal difference of minus ten. Burnley are 22nd with eight points, one win, five draws and five defeats, and a goal difference of minus five.

Lincoln were beaten 6-0 at home by West Ham on 14 October, then led 2-0 at Millwall three days later and drew 2-2. Coubis scored in the first minute and Street added a second on 33, before Elerewe was sent off on 84 minutes for denying a goalscoring chance.

Burnley drew 2-2 at home to Charlton on 13 October and lost 2-1 at home to Wolves on 16 October, when Jamie Vardy scored his first goal for the club after 20 minutes. Nicky Hayen, appointed in the summer, said after that game that he doesn’t know his future at the club.

The trend that interests us most is at both ends. Burnley have scored in every Championship game this season and kept one clean sheet. Lincoln haven’t won a league game at home, but they’ve only failed to score in two of their five home matches.

With Lincoln missing defenders through suspension, we’re looking at goals rather than a result.

Lincoln City: a home record of two draws and three defeats, and a defence losing players to bans Lincoln City

Lincoln’s home results this season read 1-3 against Portsmouth, a goalless draw, 1-1 against Southampton, 1-2 against Swansea on 19 September and the 0-6 against West Ham. Both of their away wins came by 1-0, at Preston and at Bristol City.

The joint head coaches Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw now have a selection problem at the back. Tom Hamer is banned after his red card against West Ham, Elerewe is suspended after his dismissal at Millwall, and Freddie Draper has reached five yellow cards for the season.

Conor McGrandles is available again after serving a suspension, which helps in midfield. The expected XI moves Coubis into a back four alongside Towler, Bradley and Reach, with Varfolomeev and Konak in front of them.

At Millwall, Lincoln played a 3-4-2-1 with Bradley, Coubis and Elerewe as the back three. Losing Elerewe and Hamer in the same week forces a change of shape against a Burnley side that has scored in all 11 league games.

Hackett and Draper lead the scoring with two goals each, with Coubis, Reach and Street on one. Street and Hackett are expected to start behind Ladefoged, a summer signing who arrived on 30 August.

Lincoln conceded nine in the two games before Millwall, a 3-0 at Sheffield United on 10 October and the West Ham defeat.

Burnley: scoring in every league game but one clean sheet in 11 Burnley

Burnley’s one league win this season came at Watford on 10 October, 4-0. Either side of it they drew 1-1 at Wrexham, lost 3-1 at Swansea, drew 1-1 at home to Derby on 19 September, then drew with Charlton and lost to Wolves at Turf Moor.

Turf Moor has become a problem: Burnley haven’t won a home league game in 21 attempts, with the last victory against Leeds in October 2025. Their away form over the last five reads draw, defeat, draw, defeat, win, which makes the road the better place to find them.

Ramazani and Bruun Larsen have two league goals each, with Hatate, Laurent and Vardy on one. No Burnley player has more than two league goals, yet the side has scored in all 11 league games.

Hannibal Mejbri is out until early January with a hamstring injury, and Jordan Beyer is a doubt with the same problem. Humphreys, Amdouni, Ahmedhodzic, Cullen and Barnes are back in training.

Dastan Satpaev, on loan from Chelsea, missed the Charlton game because his parent club is managing his workload after a hamstring problem in early September. The probable attack has Vardy through the middle with Ramazani, Laurent and Edwards behind him.

Ekdal and Julio are expected at centre-back with Kyle Walker at right-back, and Walker and Julio were both at fault for the Wolves goals. Burnley have conceded in ten of their 11 league games.

Probable lineup Lincoln City: Wickens; Coubis, Towler, Bradley, Reach; Varfolomeev, Konak; Hackett, Street, Jefferies; Ladefoged
Probable lineup Burnley: Weiss; Walker, Ekdal, Julio, Pires; Alleyne, Hatate; Ramazani, Laurent, Edwards; Vardy

Free Football Prediction: Lincoln City vs Burnley

Our prediction: Both teams to score (odds 1.67)

Burnley have scored in all 11 league games and kept one clean sheet. Lincoln have scored at home in three of five and arrive without Hamer, sent off against West Ham, and Elerewe, who started at the back at Millwall.

Lincoln haven’t won at home, Burnley have one league win all season and the manager doesn’t know his future. Burnley at 2.30 is too short for a side with that record, and Lincoln at 3.00 asks us to trust a home record of two draws from five.

Both teams to score at 1.67 fits the numbers on both sides. We’d expect Burnley to score against a reshaped Lincoln back line and Lincoln to find a goal against a defence that has conceded in ten of 11.

About our free predictions

  • What we publish on MathOdds are analyses, nothing more. We share a view, a reading of the moment, but never a guarantee. Sport remains what it is: unpredictable. A red card, an injury, a last-minute goal, and the script changes completely.
  • Let’s be clear: there is no such thing as a risk-free bet. Even when it looks “obvious”, nothing ever is. And yes, that means you can lose. It’s even inevitable at some point.
  • The smartest approach is to stay reasonable. Bet small, set a budget and stick to it. Never use money you need to live on. And above all: don’t chase your losses: that rarely ends well.
  • A bet should remain a game, not a job or a source of income. If it starts taking up too much space in your daily life, causes stress or frustration, take a break. And if needed, talk to a support organisation: that’s what they’re there for.
  • Ultimately, responsibility lies with you. Reading our content means accepting that risk exists and will never disappear, no matter how good the analysis.
  • Essential reminder: gambling is prohibited for minors and must comply with the laws of your country. Need help? Visit begambleaware.org.

No commitment from us

Information changes

A prediction is always based on what we know at the time of writing. But between publication and kick-off, a lineup can change, a player picks up an injury, the weather turns, and the analysis can quickly be outdated. We cannot be held responsible for that.

Your responsibility

Before placing a bet, simply check that gambling is legal in your country. If it isn’t, that’s your responsibility, not ours.

Responsible gambling

We can’t say it enough: gamble responsibly. If you’re struggling to stay in control, don’t wait to seek help.
