NFL: 49ers sign KhaDarel Hodge to bolster thin receiver room

San Francisco patches a hole at receiver

The 49ers moved quickly. San Francisco has agreed a deal with veteran receiver KhaDarel Hodge, per ESPN, with the terms kept quiet.

The timing tells the story. The team just lost Ricky Pearsall to a knee injury that ends his season, and the 2024 first-round pick had already been banged up in Week 4 a year ago.

A depth piece who earns his keep on special teams

Nobody is calling Hodge a difference-maker, and that is not why he is here. At 31, he arrives from four seasons in Atlanta, where the workload stayed light: three catches for 31 yards across 12 games last year, most of his snaps coming on special teams.

The career line reads 67 receptions, 1,026 yards and two touchdowns in 118 games. Undrafted out of the 2018 class, he has bounced through the Rams, Browns, Lions and Falcons.

A room that needs bodies

For San Francisco the logic writes itself. Add cover to a battered receiver group before camp heats up. Hodge brings snaps under his belt and real value on teams.
