Fried carries New York
Max Fried drew the assignment for the Yankees, and the left-hander delivered against a Braves lineup that has been one of the hottest in the National League for weeks. He gave his team a chance every time he took the mound.
The box score barely told them apart, seven hits each. A game like that turns on the little things, and over 3 hours and 16 minutes the crowd stayed locked in until the final out.
A result with weight to it
For New York this lands as more than a line in the standings. Beating a rival playing this well, at home, in a game this thin, carries a message with the back end of the regular season creeping up.
Atlanta will stew on this one. Two home runs and seven hits, and nothing to show for it but a long flight home.
