Thirty-six holes at Bellerive, zero bogeys
Wyndham Clark signed for another 64 on Friday at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, his second in as many days, and his card still has not been spoiled. He reaches the halfway point of the BMW Championship on 128, 12 under, a shot clear of Gary Woodland.
Three birdies out, three birdies back. The numbers behind it matter more: 31 greens in regulation across 36 holes, the best figure in the field, and three sand saves from three attempts.
“Majors are still No. 1, and winning any tournament is huge, but a signature event or a playoff event, that’s massive,” Clark said. “I’ve been close a few times in this event, so it would be nice to get it done this time.”

Thirty spots to Atlanta, and Woodland sits 31st
This is the second of three FedEx Cup playoff events. Only the top 30 on Sunday night travel to the Tour Championship. Clark started the week fifth, with two wins this season including a second US Open, so Atlanta is already sorted for him.
Woodland has no such comfort. First man outside the cut line, he birdied his last two for a 65 and now sits alone in second at 11 under. J.J. Spaun is a shot back at 10 under after a 66.
Sungjae Im (64) and Chris Gotterup (67) share fourth on 9 under. Patrick Cantlay, the 2021 FedEx Cup champion, shot 65 to join Michael Thorbjornsen at 8 under. All three are sweating: Im is 40th, Thorbjornsen 41st, Cantlay 43rd. Live PGA projections have Thorbjornsen sneaking into 30th and Cantlay stranded on 31st.
“Whether I’m near the top of the FedEx Cup or hanging on the bubble, I don’t really think about it,” Cantlay said. “The best way to move up is to play well this week. That’s where all my focus is.”
McIlroy drops back, Scheffler repairs the damage
Rory McIlroy shared the lead on Thursday night. A 69 on Friday leaves him eighth at 7 under, level with Collin Morikawa, Russell Henley and Maverick McNealy.
Scottie Scheffler had the opposite kind of day. The world No. 1 and FedEx Cup leader followed an opening 72 with a 65, erasing two early bogeys on the front nine before coming home in 30. He is 25th at 3 under. None of the three playoff events has a cut, so everyone gets the weekend regardless.
