Ten weeks, and the symptoms never cleared
The hit landed on June 23. New York confirmed on Thursday that Satou Sabally will not play again this year, regular season or playoffs, still recovering from the head injury she suffered in that game against Las Vegas.
More than two months separate the collision from the decision to shut her down. It is also the second concussion Sabally has sustained inside a year. The first came with Phoenix, in the WNBA Finals, in a series the Aces swept.
Her Liberty season closes at 13 games: 10.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists a night.

A move that has not paid off yet
Sabally signed in New York in April on a two-year deal worth $1.6 million. The 6-foot-4 forward arrived as a three-time All-Star carrying a career line of 15.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists across 149 games for Dallas, Phoenix and now the Liberty.
Drafted second overall in 2020, one pick behind her Oregon teammate Sabrina Ionescu, she finally joined her in the same locker room this spring. Thirteen appearances is what that pairing has produced so far.
Berlin goes ahead without her
The timing carries a second loss. Sabally is German, and the FIBA World Cup opens Friday in Berlin, running through September 13. She had been scheduled to play it in front of a home crowd. The WNBA paused its own season for the tournament.
New York restart on September 18 in Minneapolis against Minnesota, who sit at 31-9 and lead the standings. The Liberty are 24-16 and sixth, two games back of Atlanta and Indiana, with a playoff place already secured.
Seeding is what remains to be settled, and they will settle it without the forward they signed in April.
