Portland flips the script in overtime
Down seven with fewer than four minutes left in regulation, the Portland Fire somehow dragged this one into overtime and then beat the Golden State Valkyries 90 to 82. It was a result that also had a real impact on the conference standings.
The swing came in the closing stretch. With Portland trailing 75 to 68, the Fire ripped off a 9-0 run, helped by two Golden State turnovers and a missed three-pointer from Gabby Williams. That was enough to turn a game that looked to be slipping away from them.

Minnesota takes back the top spot
Golden State did briefly regain control in overtime, moving 82 to 79 ahead with 3’13 left. But the Valkyries never scored again, as Portland closed on an unanswered 11-0 burst. The loss does more than sting Golden State: it hands the Minnesota Lynx top spot in the league, and with it a major edge in the race for playoff seeding.
Bridget Carleton finished as the game’s leading scorer with 26 points. Carla Leite, Portland’s main scorer in regulation with 8 points, added 10 crucial points in the clutch. Megan DiLeo posted 14 points and 8 rebounds, while Emily Engstler produced 11 points, 11 rebounds and a vital block in overtime. At the other end, Portland held Golden State to 26 makes from 66 attempts, including just 8 of 31 from three-point range.
