WNBA : Atlanta edges Indiana as Angel Reese stays in control

Atlanta top Indiana and keep climbing the standings

There was only one game on the WNBA slate last night, and Atlanta made the most of it. The Dream went on the road and beat Indiana 108-101 in a tight, high-scoring battle that went right down to the wire.

When it mattered most, Karl Smesko’s team found the answers. They closed it out with poise and keep their eyes firmly on the teams above them in the standings.

Angel Reese keeps stacking up the double-doubles

Already in strong form this season, Angel Reese delivered again. The Dream big posted 21 points and 11 rebounds to land her 10th double-double in just 14 games. She also came up big in the final seconds, drilling a basket and drawing the foul to stretch Atlanta’s lead to six.

Jordin Canada added 18 points and five assists, while Allisha Gray finished with 17.

Atlanta also backed up its defensive reputation. Jordin Canada and Rhyne Howard remain among the league leaders in steals, and Atlanta continue to make life awkward for opponents on that end of the floor.

Clark and Mitchell fought back, but Indiana ran out of road

Indiana refused to roll over. Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 26 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter, while Caitlin Clark chipped in 26 and seven assists.

But Clark had a rougher night defensively, with five turnovers and five personal fouls proving costly in a game where Indiana spent too much time chasing from behind.

Aliyah Boston also put in a strong shift with 23 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three blocks. It still wasn’t enough to stop another Fever defeat.

With the win, Atlanta keep closing in on the top spots in the conference. Indiana, meanwhile, slide further down the table. The two sides will not have to wait long to meet again, with their next appointment coming soon.
