WNBA : A’ja Wilson delivers perfection as the Aces win and a record falls

A’ja Wilson writes another line in the history books as the Aces keep rolling

Some nights are bigger than the result alone. On Monday in Las Vegas, A’ja Wilson once again showed why she has become one of the faces of the modern WNBA. In the Aces’ 101-91 win over the Seattle Storm, the American superstar passed the 6,000-point mark for her career while turning in a huge performance.

Reaching that total in just 278 games, Wilson becomes the fastest player in league history to get there. She takes the record from Diana Taurasi, who had needed 291 games to hit the same milestone. It is yet another reminder of the consistency and control Wilson has brought since entering the league.

A true leading performance against Seattle

The record almost got lost in the noise because Wilson had such a grip on the game. The MVP finished with 34 points, 12 rebounds, 9 assists and 3 blocks, falling just one assist short of a triple-double that would have summed up her night perfectly. By halftime, she had already poured in 21 points. Backed by their star, the Aces took command through a dominant second quarter. A 19-6 run gave Las Vegas the cushion it needed and sent them into the locker room with a valuable lead.

Seattle never really found a way to slow down the former No. 1 pick, who hurt them at the rim, from mid-range and even beyond the arc. Her constant pressure eventually squeezed the life out of the Storm.

Malonga keeps delivering

On the other side, Dominique Malonga again showed plenty despite the loss. The French forward put up 19 points and 5 rebounds against one of the game’s elite players at her position. It was another strong outing and further proof that she is growing into the role week by week.

But this night belonged to the Aces. Jackie Young backed up her teammate brilliantly with 29 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists, giving Las Vegas a near-unplayable scoring duo. With this win, the Aces have now strung together four straight victories and look to be finding top gear after a patchy start to the season. With Wilson playing at this level and Young attacking relentlessly, Las Vegas has sent a clear message to the rest of the league: the champs are back in the hunt.
