Four years, plus a one-year option
West Ham have confirmed the signing of Edvin Austbo. The 21-year-old Norwegian winger leaves Viking FK to join the Hammers on a four-year deal, with the club holding an extra year as an option.
The move was wrapped up on the eve of the deadline. The London club wanted width, pace and a young player they can develop over time rather than a quick fix.

A 2025 season that lit the fuse
The deal is built on a strong 2025 campaign. Six goals, seven assists. Austbo played a direct part in 13 strikes and helped his club to the Norwegian league title.
He was then named the league’s best young player. He has also been capped by Norway’s Under-21 side.
What stands out most is his loyalty. Austbo joined Viking at the age of five. He came through the academy, broke into the first team, won a title and had never played for another club before this move. That is rare now, with so many of Scandinavia’s brightest talents usually out the door before they turn 20.
A calculated punt
West Ham are not signing a player expected to play 50 Premier League games straight away this season. They are buying upside and giving themselves time with a long contract.
The Norwegian league remains a familiar hunting ground for English clubs, with fees still manageable and players used to a direct style. Austbo arrives with that in his locker. Now comes the hard part: adapting to Premier League tempo, the only real test that matters.
