Seven rounds, one kick
Vannes had gone through the first seven rounds of the Top 14 without a win. This afternoon at La Rabine they finally got one, and it took the final play to deliver it. Anthony Bouthier’s conversion at 80 minutes sealed a 27-26 win over Clermont, after Francisco Gorrissen had crossed for the late try that set it up.
It was the first time all game that Vannes had led. Clermont had opened with 13 quick points, and the home side played much of the second half with only 14 men after Inia Tabuavou went off injured with ten minutes left.

A shirt that mattered
The Breton club played in pink for Octobre Rose, the breast cancer awareness campaign, and captain Gorrissen said the shirt added to the desire to win. “We still wanted to win with this jersey,” he said of a month that is always special in the town.
Assistant coach Jérémy Davidson pointed to the way the team used the wind after the break. The first half had gone badly with the breeze behind them, he said, and the second was about not relying on it.
The table still looks grim. One win leaves Vannes bottom, and Gorrissen admitted the fear of being cut adrift has not gone. Next up is a trip to Lyon, a game that now carries a very different mood than it would have this morning.
