A flat first half, a sharp second
Union Saint-Gilloise earned a 2-0 win away to Antwerp this afternoon at the Bosuilstadion on matchday 7 of the Jupiler Pro League. It was goalless at the break.
Mateo Biondic broke the deadlock in the 51st minute, set up by Relebohile Mofokeng. The South African was the visitors’ biggest threat in the first half, with four attempts.
Denzel De Roeve wrapped it up in the 78th minute. The assist came from Kevin Rodriguez, who had come on in the 64th minute for Mofokeng. The Ecuadorian got three of his four efforts on target in his half-hour on the pitch.

Five big chances to none
Possession tells you nothing about this one. Union had 51 percent, which is almost even. The real gap was elsewhere: five big chances for the Brussels side, none for Antwerp.
Massire Sylla was the leader at the back for David Hubert’s side, winning 15 of his 17 duels. Kamiel Van de Perre added four interceptions and won 10 duels. Adem Zorgane kept things moving in midfield, completing 60 of 66 passes.
Union’s 3-1-4-2 system strangled Antwerp’s 4-4-2. Arthur Vermeeren lost all six of his duels, Xander Dierckx all five, Snayder Porozo all four. Michael Frey, who has four league goals this season, barely had a kick.
A leader pulling clear
The result sends Union Saint-Gilloise top of the Belgian league with 19 points. Antwerp stay 13th with 7, a spot that fits neither their budget nor their status.
The Bosuil, built in 1923, was not enough to turn things around. Michael Compper tried to shake things up on the hour, bringing on Porozo and Mejia, but it made no difference to the balance of play.
Raul Florucz came on in the 83rd minute, too late to add to the scoreline. The forward remains on four goals, level with Frey in the Pro League scoring charts.
