Purdue scored on the first snap of the game and still lost by 14
A 75-yard Ryan Browne throw to Xavier Townsend, one play in, and the Boilermakers were up. It did not hold. UCLA won 52-38 in Pasadena on Friday night in its first Big Ten game.
Wayne Knight carried it 177 yards and scored twice. Three games in a Bruins shirt, three multi-touchdown nights.
UCLA had the lead back inside the first quarter and stretched it to 21-7, Knight finishing from six yards after Iamaleava had already hit Semaj Morgan for 27 and 20.

One screen pass decided it
Purdue did claw back. Browne to Townsend again in the second quarter, a two-yard Fame Ijeboi run, then a 30-yard strike to George Burhenn barely two minutes into the second half. A 21-3 run had the Boilermakers ahead 28-24.
Anthony Woods answered on a five-play, 75-yard drive, capping it from 16 yards out to restore a 31-28 lead.
Then came the play the whole night turned on. Asaad Waseem took a screen and got moving before Sammy Omosigho arrived and punched the ball loose. Knight scored from seven yards on the very next possession. 38-28, and Purdue never got closer.
1,133 yards between them
Six hundred and forty-five for UCLA, 488 for Purdue. Iamaleava went 19 of 31 for 276 yards and three scores, one of them a six-yarder to Landon Ellis inside the last eight minutes, and that was after he had already limped off once in the second half.
The ground game did the rest: 369 yards for the Bruins, with Woods adding 80, Jaivian Thomas 58 and Iamaleava himself 55.
Fifty-two points is UCLA’s biggest haul since a 59-7 win over North Carolina Central in 2023, and its best against conference opposition since putting 60 on USC in 2021.
Browne finished 19 of 30 for 378 yards. Townsend had 162 receiving, Waseem 149. UCLA are 3-0 and 1-0 in the Big Ten. Purdue sit at 1-2.
