Two picks, two Knight runs, one limp off the field
Wayne Knight ran for three touchdowns in his first game in UCLA colors. That is not the number the Bruins will be thinking about on the flight home. Nico Iamaleava came off with a right leg injury in a 45-24 win at California on Saturday night.
These old Pac-12 rivals stayed within reach of each other for three quarters. Then two interceptions handed UCLA short fields, and Knight did the rest.

Ta’Shawn James took the game away twice
The Bruins pass rush moved Jaron-Keawe Sagapoluetele off his spot. The Cal quarterback threw on the run, the ball glanced off receiver Ian Strong, and Ta’Shawn James collected it at midfield.
One snap later Knight was gone, 31 yards, his second score of the night after an eight-yarder in the second quarter. Anthony Woods had also gone 31 yards for a touchdown in that period. Woods ended the night with 118 rushing yards and a 53-yard score late.
James got Sagapoluetele again not long after. UCLA answered with eight plays for 46 yards in 4:03, Knight punching it in from four out.
The injury that mattered more than the scoreline
Iamaleava scrambled on that same possession and was pulled down by the leg. He got up limping and watched the rest of the series from the sideline. Younger brother Madden Iamaleava came on and did not attempt a pass.
Nico finished 14 of 22 for 184 yards with one interception, taken by Kingston Lopa. There was no update on him after the final whistle.
Sagapoluetele had his moments for Cal: 24 of 41, 271 yards, two touchdown throws. He capped the Bears’ first two drives with a nine-yard ball to Chase Hendricks and an eight-yarder to Mason Mini just before the break, that one set up by a 49-yard Strong catch.
