Europe has shut up shop, but not everywhere
Europe’s major leagues wrapped up their summer transfer business in the early hours of Tuesday into Wednesday. Ligue 1, the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and the Bundesliga are done for now. But several markets are still open, and some for quite a while yet.
Dutch clubs still have a few hours left: their window closes on 2 September. Scotland has set its deadline at 5pm on 3 September. Turkey, now a major destination in recent windows, can keep signing players until 4 September.
Portugal offers the biggest window in Europe. Benfica, Sporting CP, Porto and their rivals can register new players until 15 September.

The fallback route for unwanted players
These dates are not just a footnote. They offer an exit route for any player frozen out of squads in the five biggest leagues. A starter dumped in the stands on 1 September can still be somewhere else two weeks later.
The system works both ways. A club in the Super Lig or Liga Portugal can now negotiate from a position of strength, with sellers who no longer have the chance to replace the outgoing player. Prices drop, loans pile up.
Outside Europe, Saudi Arabia calls the shots
The MLS also shuts its market on 2 September. Clubs in Mexico and Brazil have until 11 September to add to their squads, which still leaves room for teams involved in South American competitions.
The Saudi Pro League, though, is playing a different game. Its clubs can sign players until 12 October. That’s five extra weeks while the rest of the world has already put the paperwork away. Plenty of time to snap up players who were left stranded during the European summer.
For bettors, the impact is obvious. A squad checked in early September in Turkey, Portugal or Saudi Arabia could look very different by the time the league resumes. Checking expected line-ups is essential in these markets.
