Rugby: Tom Curry pulls out of Sale’s clash with Harlequins

Illness rules Curry out before kick-off

Sale Sharks lost one of their biggest names before a ball was kicked today. England back-rower Tom Curry withdrew from the squad for the PREM Rugby round three meeting with Harlequins at CorpAcq Stadium, with illness the reason.

Curry was due to start at openside flanker. The 3pm BST kick-off left Sale little room to reshuffle, and the late call forced a change in both the starting back row and the bench.

Tshiunza steps in at seven

Christ Tshiunza moves into the back row at number seven to cover for Curry. Sam Dugdale is promoted from the 23-man squad to take a place among the replacements.

Sale host the bottom-ranked side in the table this round, so the hosts still go into the match as favourites on paper. Losing an England international at openside on the day is a test of their depth all the same.
