The Pelicans stall late

New Orleans cut it to 104-99 on a Saddiq Bey three with 2:53 left, then missed shots on its next two trips. Dosunmu answered with a three of his own and McDaniels hit two free throws, which made it a 10-point game with 1:32 to play. Jeremiah Fears scored with 12 seconds left to make it 113-109, but Kuminga dunked at the other end to close it out.

Fears finished with 24 points for the Pelicans, Karlo Matkovic had 18, and Bey added 17. Matkovic scored 16 of his points in the first quarter on four threes, which put New Orleans up 30-27 early. Zion Williamson had just two points at the break, then scored eight in a 12-0 run that gave his team a 73-66 lead in the third. The Pelicans held Minnesota to 6 of 23 shooting in that quarter, which is how they went into the fourth ahead.

A bad break for the bench

Backup center Joan Beringer left in the second quarter with a nasal fracture and did not return. The Timberwolves played the entire second half without him.
