Nineteen minutes of hope
Krieschow had the better of the opening quarter of an hour. A fifth-tier club from Brandenburg, playing a Bundesliga side, and they were creating chances. They wanted a penalty and did not get it. Then Phillip Tietz headed in a Mwene cross on 19 minutes and the afternoon stopped being a contest.
Mainz 05 won 9-0 at the Sportpark Krieschow in the first round of the German Cup. Tietz scored four of them.
His second came seven minutes after the first, a move down the right through Caci and a finish from inside the box. His third arrived on 32 minutes, Mwene supplying again, which completed a hat-trick inside 13 minutes without another player scoring in between.

Amiri from 35 metres
Nadiem Amiri made it 4-0 on 39 minutes. Sheraldo Becker added the fifth just before the break. Krieschow went in five goals down having genuinely troubled Mainz for a quarter of an hour, which is roughly how these ties tend to go once the first one drops.
Amiri opened the second half with the goal of the round so far. A free kick from about 35 metres, off the underside of the bar, into the net on 48 minutes. Nine minutes later Tietz headed in his third header and fourth goal, Amiri crossing this time, for 7-0.
Two more before the end
Ransford Koenigsdoerffer scored his first goal for Mainz on 73 minutes after coming on. William Boeving finished it on 88 minutes.
Nine goals is a heavy number even for a first-round mismatch, and it landed on the same afternoon that two clubs relegated from the Bundesliga went out. Heidenheim lost 5-2 to fourth-tier Jeddeloh in Oldenburg. St. Pauli lost 2-0 at third-division Essen. Mainz took the opposite lesson from the same round.
Tietz now has four goals in a competition where he had none this season. Mainz have a striker in form and a second-round tie to look forward to.
