NBA: Sixers bring back Tacko Fall, 7-foot-5, on a camp deal

Seven-foot-five, and back in the league

Philadelphia just signed the tallest man in professional basketball. Tacko Fall, 7-foot-5, is a 76er.

The club confirmed the Senegalese center’s arrival Tuesday, along with two others in the same wave: guard Jameer Nelson Jr. and wing Saint Thomas. No terms released on any of them.

Nobody signs Tacko Fall for the numbers

Fall is 30 now and comes back from a season with the Ningbo Rockets in China’s CBA.

The NBA resume is thin. Three partial years, Boston from 2019 to 2021, Cleveland in 2021-22. Thirty-seven games, one start, 2.2 points and 2.4 rebounds in 6.2 minutes a night.

None of that is the pitch. The pitch is a body nobody else has and a rim nobody can shoot over, available on a camp contract.

A very familiar surname in Philadelphia

Jameer Nelson Jr., 25, arrives off a strong G League run. In 25 games for the Stockton Kings he put up 18.9 points, 3.4 assists, 3 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 25.3 minutes.

His father is Jameer Nelson, 44, fourteen NBA seasons across six teams between 2004 and 2018. He is also the Sixers’ executive vice-president of basketball operations. Read that back.

Saint Thomas rounds out the trio. The 23-year-old already knows the building, having played 36 games for the Delaware Blue Coats, Philadelphia’s G League team, at 12.5 points, 5 rebounds and 3.7 assists. He added four Summer League games for the Sixers, 4.5 points and 4.2 rebounds in 15.5 minutes.

Three signings, three profiles, zero dollar figures. Camp roster construction, one body at a time.
