Two threes in 34 seconds, and a 21-point lead saved
Chicago beat Golden State 73-70 last night. The Sky owed it all to Sydney Taylor.
Kaitlyn Chen had put the Valkyries ahead with a 33-foot bomb, then followed it with a floater for 70-67 with 46.3 seconds left. Taylor answered from 24 feet to level it at 34.4. Golden State got the ball back to Chen, hounded the whole way, and she missed badly with 15.8 on the clock.
Chicago called timeout and went back to Taylor. She found the sliver of space above Veronica Burton and buried a 25-footer with 0.6 seconds showing. Janelle Salaun had one last look from 26 feet. Short.

The Sky spent three quarters giving it all back
Chicago had led by 21 in the first period. Natasha Cloud opened with two threes inside a 17-4 burst. Taylor added two more during Chicago’s 14 straight points to start the second quarter. It was 37-16 with 4:29 on the clock.
Then it unravelled. Golden State closed the opening quarter on an 8-0 run, then ripped off a 10-1 spurt before halftime to make it 38-26.
Cloud finished as the game’s top scorer with 17 points, 5 of 5 from deep. Taylor and Kamilla Cardoso ended on 14 apiece, Cardoso adding 10 rebounds for the double-double. Courtney Vandersloot chipped in 12 points and 5 assists.
Fifty-one bench points, and still a loss for Golden State
The Valkyries went deep into their rotation. The bench produced 51 of the team’s 70 points. Laeticia Amihere led with 16, ahead of Salaun (13) and Tiffany Hayes (10 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists). Burton finished with 11.
Chicago (15-22) have won three in a row and took the season series 2-1. Golden State (25-11) opened a five-game road trip badly and now have the Las Vegas Aces breathing down their neck, one game back in the race for second.
