Swain gets the scoring started without the offense touching the ball
South Carolina beat Towson 45-9 in Columbia on Saturday night. The first points came after 5 minutes and 30 seconds, when Vicari Swain ripped back a 58-yard punt return.
The third-year defensive back did it again late in the third quarter, this time from 45 yards out. 31-9.
Swain returned three of Towson’s 11 punts for 122 yards in all. Two of them went all the way.

The ground game did the rest
Matt Fuller rushed for 125 yards and scored on a 55-yard burst in the second quarter, finishing off a five-play drive. LaNorris Sellers added 119 yards on the ground, including a 58-yard run that set up the second-half opener on a three-play possession.
The Gamecocks quarterback was far less sharp through the air: 10 completions on 23 attempts for 96 yards and one interception.
Max Kelley had earlier drilled a 33-yard field goal at the end of an 11-play drive to make it 10-0. Late on, with most of the starters on the sideline, Jabree Coleman scored from three yards out and Isaiah Augustave finished things off with a 55-yard run.
Towson still winless
The Tigers were held to 203 yards of offense on the night. At the break, South Carolina led 254-81.
Andrew Indorf threw for 171 yards and a touchdown, a 23-yard strike to Aaron Enterline shortly after a weather delay that came less than three minutes after the restart. Play then resumed in heavy rain.
Zaydaan Faridi had put Towson on the board with a 41-yard field goal at 1:04 of the half.
Towson drops to 0-3. South Carolina moves to 2-0 without needing much from its quarterback, which raises the obvious question heading into the rest of the schedule: the Gamecocks are about to open SEC play, and special teams won’t be handing them two touchdowns every week.
