Rugby action illustrating Suleiman Hartzenberg's move from the Stormers to the Sharks

Rugby: Sharks sign Stormers back Suleiman Hartzenberg

Cape Town to Durban

Seven appearances in a whole season. That was Suleiman Hartzenberg’s 2025/26 with the Stormers, and a fractured hand late in the campaign explains most of it. The 23-year-old has now agreed terms with the Sharks, who confirmed the move today as they build towards the new United Rugby Championship season.

He arrives in Durban able to cover wing or centre, which is exactly the kind of flexibility JP Pietersen has been stacking up in his squad. The Sharks put it plainly on their X channel: “A finisher in black and white. Suleiman Hartzenberg joins the Sharks for the season, bringing versatility across centre and wing, and a proven eye for the try line. Welcome to Durban, Suleiman.”

Back playing before the move

Hartzenberg did not sit out the whole recovery. He returned to the field recently with the Stormers XXIII in the Currie Cup, enough game time to prove the hand had healed and enough of a shop window to get a deal done before the URC starts.

The Stormers lose a young back who never got a clean run at their senior side. The Sharks pick up a player with something to prove and no wear on the legs from last season. Pietersen will find out quickly which of those two readings is closer to the truth.
