Twelve months on the shelf
DeShon Elliott has spent a full year waiting for this transaction. The Pittsburgh Steelers activated the 29-year-old safety from injured reserve Saturday, putting him on the active roster for the first time since a knee injury ended his last season. That injury came in a loss to Green Bay on October 26, 2025.
His comeback has been on a clock. Elliott returned to practice on October 8, which opened a 21-day window for the Steelers to either add him to the 53-man roster or leave him on IR for the rest of the year. They chose the first option, just in time for Sunday’s game in Paris against the New Orleans Saints.

A veteran back in a 4-2 secondary
Baltimore drafted Elliott in the sixth round in 2018. Since then he has piled up 433 tackles, 4.5 sacks, five interceptions and five fumble recoveries in 77 games, 69 of them starts, across stops with the Ravens (2019 to 2021), the Lions (2022), the Dolphins (2023) and the Steelers.
Pittsburgh is 4-2 and travels to face a Saints team sitting at 2-4. The Steelers also elevated wide receivers Brandon Johnson and Brandon Smith from the practice squad for the trip. Whether Elliott starts or eases in has not been announced.
