World No. 1 skips Cincinnati
Jannik Sinner will not play the Cincinnati Masters 1000. The Italian announced his withdrawal on Sunday. His right knee is still bothering him, and the world No. 1 decided pulling out beat the risk of making it worse.
“After consulting with my doctors and my team, I have to announce my withdrawal from the Cincinnati Masters 1000 tournament,” Sinner said in a statement released by the organisers. “My right knee is causing me problems and, even though we have worked hard with my medical staff, I have to accept that I am not ready to play yet.”
It is not a one-off either. Sinner had already scratched from Toronto. He has not hit a competitive ball since Wimbledon.

All eyes on the US Open
At Wimbledon, Sinner beat Alexander Zverev in the final. That title, the fifth Grand Slam of his career, is still his last time on court. The 24-year-old is now pointing everything at the US Open, which starts on 30 August. Get to New York in top shape, nothing else matters right now.
He knows Cincinnati well. He lifted the trophy in 2024 and carries a 12-4 record at the event. This season he ruled the Masters 1000 circuit for long stretches, winning the first five he entered and completing the Career Golden Masters with his run in Rome.
A draw missing its two biggest names
His absence leaves Cincinnati without the top two players in the world. Carlos Alcaraz, ranked No. 2, had already pulled out earlier in the week. The Spaniard is still nursing the wrist injury that has kept him off court since April. A year ago, Alcaraz beat Sinner in the Cincinnati final.
The field still holds up. Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev now head the race for the title. Djokovic has won here in 2018, 2020 and 2023. Zverev took the trophy in 2021. The door is open.
