Turin did not wait until the last minute
Five seasons at Tottenham. Then, on a Tuesday afternoon on deadline day, an Italian statement.
Pape Matar Sarr is a Juventus player. The Turin club confirmed the Senegalese midfielder’s arrival late in the afternoon. The wording was brief and to the point, praising “his Premier League experience with Tottenham, the club with which he continued his development in European football”.
The financial structure is far less tidy. Sky Italia reports a paid loan worth 2.5 million euros, with an obligation to buy set at 27.5 million. In plain English: Juventus are buying Sarr. They are just spreading the cost over two seasons.

The Metz route
Sarr did not arrive in Europe through the front door. First came Generation Foot, the Senegalese academy that has fed FC Metz for years. Then Lorraine in 2020. Ligue 1 was the first step.
Tottenham signed him in 2021, before he had truly broken through, then left him in Metz for another season to keep building. The gamble paid off. Sarr settled into midfield in London, even if he never became untouchable.
It was that squad-player status that pushed him towards the exit. Born in 2002, he needed a project that offered more than scraps.
And Turin is not done yet
Juventus are moving on. Nick Woltemade is set to be confirmed shortly, on loan from Newcastle. Jonathan David’s move to Atletico Madrid is edging closer. Juan Cabal, meanwhile, has reached an agreement with Atalanta.

Sarr arrives in the middle of the rebuild. No one is promising him a starting spot. That may be exactly what he wanted.
