Thirteen games without a win, and the rut is finally over
Seattle had been waiting for this one since May 13. Thirteen MLS matches without a victory, a run that hung heavy over a club that has lifted the MLS Cup twice, in 2016 and 2019. Against Real Salt Lake at Lumen Field, the Sounders finally got back to winning ways, 2-0.
The breakthrough came from Danny Musovski in the 48th minute, when he let fly from long range just outside the box. Albert Rusnak wrapped it up with a solo run, starting from midfield, slipping the ball through a defender’s legs before finishing near the edge of the area.

The second goal meant a little more. Rusnak wore the Real Salt Lake shirt from 2017 to 2021 before moving to Seattle. Scoring against his former team summed up a side that has been trying to find its feet since spring, as the bad run began to drag on the mood around the squad.
Between the posts, Andrew Thomas posted his eighth clean sheet of the season, making two crucial saves to protect the lead built after the break. It was another reminder of how dependable the goalkeeper has been all year, even if the rest of the team has been stuck in a messy spell.
A timely lift before the run-in
This win arrives at a key point in the schedule, with MLS heading into its final sprint before the playoffs. For Seattle, it’s mainly a much-needed release after months of doubt. The question now is whether this is the start of something better or just a brief pause in a season that has been a grind for one of Major League Soccer’s old guard.
