One hit, one walk, nothing across. It was the best he has looked all year, and it wrapped a homestand that finished four wins and two defeats.
His record now reads 2-7. The number is a poor description of the afternoon.

Strikeout 3,535 came with a name attached
The last of his 10 was the 3,535th of his career, one more than Gaylord Perry, which lifts Scherzer to ninth on the all-time list ahead of a Hall of Famer.
He is 42 years old. Very few pitchers his age get asked to go seven innings any more, let alone finish them in that shape, in an era where starters are pulled early by design.
Toronto’s lineup handled the rest. Alejandro Kirk went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer. Kazuma Okamoto hit his 28th of the season, a solo shot and a team high.
Seattle struck out 15 times
Fifteen strikeouts. One hit. Defence that wobbled again. The Mariners left Rogers Centre having lost all three.
Logan Gilbert lasted five innings and conceded three runs on six hits, dropping to 11-8.
Getting shut out is one thing. Getting shut out by a 42-year-old climbing the record books is another.
