Casper Ruud and Rafael Jodar advance at the Paris Masters

Tennis: Ruud and Jodar cruise in Paris, set up a night clash

Ruud in an hour

Casper Ruud barely broke a sweat at the Rolex Paris Masters. The Norwegian beat qualifier Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6-3, 6-2 in about an hour on the center court, taking the opening set in only 32 minutes. Cerundolo is the Argentine who knocked Jannik Sinner out of Roland-Garros in May, so the speed of the result stood out.

Ruud now has a very short turnaround. He plays again on Tuesday, and the draw has handed him a tough one.

Jodar waiting in the night session

Ninth seed Rafael Jodar had already booked his place earlier in the day, beating Alejandro Tabilo 6-2, 6-3 in 1h18. The young Spaniard led the Chilean from the first game and never let the match drift.

The organizers have put Ruud against Jodar in Tuesday’s night session, after Ben Shelton’s match, and it looks like one of the best second-round ties on the schedule. It also closes a day in which the Gaël Monfils tribute is planned, since the tournament will honor the Frenchman on Tuesday evening after his retirement.
