Football: Rulli closes in on Man City move

Rulli on the brink of the Premier League

At 34, Geronimo Rulli is about to swap the Mediterranean for Manchester. Foot Mercato reports that Manchester City and Olympique de Marseille have agreed a deal for the Argentine goalkeeper, who has given his own green light to the move. It is not quite over the line, with a few details still to settle with his camp.

At City he would slot in behind Gianluigi Donnarumma, filling the gap left by James Trafford’s switch to Leeds United. A straight No 2 role, with just a year left on his Marseille contract.

Two busy seasons on the Canebiere

Rulli joined OM in the summer of 2024 and racked up 73 appearances in the Marseille shirt. Ligue 1 holds no secrets for him after his time at Montpellier. A 2022 world champion with Argentina as a reserve, he has never ducked competition.

The money tells its own story. City opened at 2 million euros. Marseille held out for at least 3.5. The English club have since bumped up their offer to get things moving.

OM keep selling

After Mason Greenwood and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Marseille could lose another familiar face. The club is reshaping its squad at pace as the window ticks down. All that is left is turning this agreement into a signature.
