Seven starts that changed his season
Noah Cameron carried a 5-8 record and a 5.27 ERA on July 19. Seven starts later he sits at 9-8 with a 3.98 ERA, and the split does the talking: 4-0 with a 1.29 ERA and a 0.72 WHIP across that run.
The left-hander takes the ball tonight for Kansas City against Miami, with the Royals looking to level a three-game series. He has never faced the Marlins.
His last outing came Thursday in Toronto, a 13-2 Kansas City win. Cameron gave up six hits and two walks over six innings and conceded only a two-run homer to George Springer in the sixth. Before that swing he had run off 19 straight scoreless innings. It went down as his fourth quality start of the streak.
“A lot of building confidence,” he told MLB Network. “Kind of a tough first stretch, first half. (Now), it’s just let’s run with what we’re doing.”

Spoiler duty at 62-77
The Royals sit 15 games under .500 and have nothing of their own left to chase. They can still complicate matters for teams that do. Kansas City had won 12 of 13 before Tuesday, including a seven-game home winning streak that Miami snapped with a 6-3 win.
Miami need every game. At 70-69 the Marlins sit three games out of the final National League wild-card spot, and Tuesday’s win landed after they dropped three of four in Washington. Graham Pauley, just recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville, hit a two-run homer and a two-run triple. Kyle Stowers went deep. Tyler Phillips allowed one hit across five scoreless innings. A win tonight would give Miami back-to-back victories for the first time since a three-game run from Aug. 21-23.
“We’re going to need everybody on the roster to be ready to contribute for us to make a push,” manager Clayton McCullough said.
Perez has free passes to answer for
Eury Perez (7-10, 3.44 ERA) starts for Miami. His last outing was his shortest of the season: five runs, including a three-run homer, in three innings of a 9-2 defeat at Washington on Friday, with four walks. The three starts before that produced one earned run over 18 innings, and ten walks.
“I think there’s only so long in this league you can dance around that number of free passes,” McCullough said.
Perez has never pitched against Kansas City. Bobby Witt Jr. is hitting .315 with 30 RBIs in 62 home games this season.
