A camera, a refusal, and Rothen’s reaction
Antoine Griezmann does not want to talk to French reporters anymore. A Téléfoot crew caught up with him in Orlando to film the “Grizimania” around his MLS arrival, and he waved them off: sorry, no more interviews, and it is not aimed at anybody.
Jérôme Rothen picked it up on RMC’s “Rothen s’enflamme” on Monday. The former France winger says he feels sad. Griezmann was never a talker, he argues, and never enjoyed long interviews, yet he wore the France shirt with pride even though he was raised and trained in Spain. His verdict: France should be building him a statue, not watching him walk away bitter.

How the split with Les Bleus unfolded
Griezmann stunned the football world on 30 September 2024 by announcing his international retirement. Rothen traces it to a slow demotion: a shifted role on the pitch, the captain’s armband going to Kylian Mbappé, and a new generation taking over the dressing room.
He directed his anger at the French federation, pointing at the politicians who represent the game there. In his view nobody at the top reacted when Griezmann slammed the door, and he wants someone to fly out and sit down with him.
Meanwhile the forward keeps scoring for Orlando City, with another double reported in recent weeks. Whatever he thinks of the French media, his form on the pitch has not dipped.
