Blame in the dressing room
Manchester United have gone seven games without a win. They sit 13th in the Premier League and 20th in the Champions League table, and Michael Carrick, who took over from the sacked Ruben Amorim in January, is under growing pressure. Wayne Rooney thinks he is looking at the wrong man.
Speaking on The United Stand podcast, the club’s record scorer put the blame on the senior players. He called Lisandro Martinez’s outburst “an absolute nightmare” because it was bound to split the squad. Martinez went public after the 2-0 Champions League defeat by Atlético Madrid on 13 October, accusing the club of failing to invest enough last summer.

“Babies throwing toys”
Bruno Fernandes followed by questioning Carrick’s tactics after the 4-1 loss to Como in midweek. “That was just the start,” Rooney said. “You’ll see it with more players.”
His charge was one of selfishness. “They care about themselves, not their teammates, the manager, the staff or the fans,” he said. He compared the squad to babies throwing toys out of the pram and blaming everyone but themselves.
Rooney added that whether Fernandes was right or wrong was beside the point. Responsibility, he said, is taken on the pitch.
He drew on his own career. There were times he and Sir Alex Ferguson were not speaking, he said, yet he would have run through a wall for him. Fernandes, in his view, is going through the worst spell of his time at the club, and if he and Martinez look in the mirror they will see that what they are giving is not enough.
