A free transfer to Piraeus
Remo Freuler has joined Olympiacos. The move was completed today on a free transfer, one of only two deals confirmed across Europe’s top five leagues so far this Monday.
Bologna lose an experienced central midfielder and receive nothing for him. The Switzerland international arrived at the club from Nottingham Forest and spent the intervening seasons as a regular in the middle of the pitch, including through Bologna’s European campaigns.
Olympiacos get a player with more than a decade of top-flight football behind him, across Serie A with Atalanta and Bologna, the Premier League with Forest, and a long run in the Switzerland squad that ran through this summer’s World Cup.

Bologna’s midfield clearout
Freuler was not the only departure. Jhon Lucumi left for Juventus today as well, for €20.1 million, which makes two Bologna players out of the door inside a single day.
Those were the only two transfers completed in the top five leagues on Monday. The Premier League, La Liga, the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 all registered nothing, with Serie A accounting for both.
Bologna now have two weeks to reshape a midfield that has lost its most experienced organiser. The window shuts on 1 September.
