NFL: Seahawks guard Quenton Nelson out for Cardinals game

Nelson sidelined after one game in Seattle

The Seahawks traded for Quenton Nelson on Oct. 27 and got exactly one game out of him. The guard will sit out Sunday’s matchup with the Arizona Cardinals because of a knee problem that needs a procedure.

Coach Mike Macdonald called it minor and said Nelson is week-to-week. Seattle does not plan to put him on injured reserve. Reports point to a cartilage issue. Nelson was already dealing with the knee before the trade, according to the team, then aggravated it in Seattle. Macdonald said he passed his physical and that internal talks this week convinced everyone to fix it now and play the long game.

A thin Seattle lineup

Nelson played every offensive snap on Monday in a 34-17 loss to Chicago. The eight-time Pro Bowler is 30 and in the last year of a four-year, $80 million deal. Seattle gave Indianapolis a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-rounder for him, and Nelson has started all 137 games he has played since the Colts took him sixth overall in 2018.

He is not alone on the injury report. Left tackle Charles Cross (ankle) is out, as are quarterback Sam Darnold (quadriceps, ribs), receiver Rashid Shaheed (knee), defensive tackle Leonard Williams (stinger), nose tackle Brandon Pili (back) and outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu (ankle). That is a lot of missing starters heading to the desert.
