Ipswich outspent Barcelona
Hold on to this number: 245 million euros. That is what Ipswich Town, promoted three months ago, put through the till this summer. More than Arsenal. More than Manchester United. More than Barcelona, more than PSG.
It tells you roughly everything about where English football sits right now. Premier League clubs spent 3.48 billion pounds across the window, a shade over 4 billion euros. Record broken. The old one was set twelve months ago.

City bought a midfield and paid full price for it
Manchester City topped the chart. Elliot Anderson at 135 M€. Ayyoub Bouaddi at 100 M€. Enzo Fernandez at roughly 145 M€, which ties him with Alexander Isak as the most expensive move in league history. Iliman Ndiaye (70 M€) and the Brazilian Allan (37.5 M€) went on top of that.
Chelsea came next with close to 400 M€ committed, and still finished the summer around 80 M€ up on sales. Few clubs manage that in a market like this one.
Then the odd one out: Tottenham, third-biggest spenders. Newcastle, Aston Villa and Liverpool follow. And Ipswich sit in that company.
Deadline day alone burned 554 million
The final day accounted for 475 million pounds, about 554 M€. Another record gone.
Eleven of the 20 clubs set a new club-record fee at some point in the window. Plenty of that money never left the country either, with 35% of deals done between English clubs. Enzo Fernandez, Morgan Rogers, Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali all shuffled sideways within the league. Barcola was the only one of the top five arrivals bought from abroad.
One hundred and fifty-four transfers in all. The promoted sides went shopping in Ligue 1 like it was a discount aisle, with Hull and Ipswich both helping themselves. Against numbers like these, French clubs were never going to hold on to much.
