EuroLeague: Hifi returns as Paris end skid at Dubai

Paris stop the slide in Dubai

Paris Basketball won 99-93 at Dubai on Tuesday evening, ending a run of four straight EuroLeague defeats. It is only the club’s second win of the season in the competition, and it came against a side from the top six of the table that is being tipped as a Final Four contender.

Jared Rhoden led the scoring with 20 points, and the game stayed tight right into the final minutes. The visitors had arrived with their domestic form in good shape, co-leaders and unbeaten in the French league after five rounds. Europe had been far less kind.

Hifi makes the difference late

Nadir Hifi was back after missing five games with an ankle problem picked up in mid-October, around the 98-84 win over Strasbourg. He did not ease in. Paris led 88-79 in the 36th minute when he hit a three, then did it again with under a minute left to make it 93-85.

The France international finished with 20 points and two assists, a solid return for a player the team badly missed during the skid.

What it changes

Two wins in eight games is still a slow start for Maxime Lefevre’s group, but beating a side of this level on the road gives them something to build on. With Hifi healthy again, Paris have a key guard back for the next block of games.
