NFL: Pacheco on track for Week 1 despite knee sprain

Campbell isn’t sweating it

A knee. An MCL sprain. For a running back, those words can gut a season before it even starts. Not this time. Isiah Pacheco should be good to go when the Detroit Lions open their year, and head coach Dan Campbell said exactly that on Monday.

Pacheco is 27, and he is aiming straight at Week 1. No detour, no soft landing built into the timeline.

The ground game leans on him

Detroit wants to run the ball. That is where Pacheco earns his keep, punching through contact and grinding out the yards nobody else wants. Line him up in September and the whole offense breathes a little easier.

Preseason is another story. His snaps get watched, his reps get managed, and the staff will not rush a knee for the sake of August football. The plan itself has not moved, though. Week 1 stays the target.
