A year on from 69-3
Oregon go back to Stillwater on Saturday. The backdrop has changed completely.
Last year Mike Gundy went public with his complaints about what the Ducks’ roster cost. Oregon answered on the field: 69-3, at 10.2 yards per play. It is still the program’s biggest win over a Power 4 opponent. Gundy was fired later that season, after more than two decades with the Cowboys.

The Ducks have started to wobble
Nothing about Oregon looks that dominant right now. They beat Boise State 34-27 last week after falling behind by 10 in the first half, and the voters made them pay for it, dropping them from second to sixth in the Top 25.
Dan Lanning still has a card worth playing. His Ducks have won 12 in a row away from home, a run that started in October 2023 and now stands as the longest active streak in the country. Lanning is 18-2 on the road since he took the job.
Dante Moore is running the offense. The quarterback, talked about as a possible No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, set career highs against Boise State: 378 passing yards, three throws of more than 50 yards, one of them a 62-yard touchdown.
Lanning is watching the forecast too. “We’re playing this game at 9 a.m. back home. I think the heat will be something we’ll need to adjust to pretty quickly,” he said. Oregon have never played in Stillwater.
Oklahoma State starts from scratch
Eric Morris’s debut went badly. Tulsa won 24-10 last Saturday in Stillwater. Last season a home loss to that same Tulsa program was what finished Gundy.
Morris knows Lanning. He was offensive coordinator at Washington State in 2022, and he has coached Patrick Mahomes and Cam Ward. His attack now runs through Drew Mestemaker, his quarterback at North Texas last season, who finished second nationally at 318 passing yards per game.
The rebuild has barely begun. Left tackle Jacob Sexton is out for the year. “Now we’ve identified the problems, and we’re starting to build this thing from the inside out, one step at a time,” Morris said.
Oregon are favored by more than 10.
