An ACL tear ends Moultrie’s year
Rough news out of Portland. Olivia Moultrie has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee, the Thorns confirmed on Tuesday. Her NWSL season is done.
It happened in training last week. The club has put her on the long-term injured list. She is 20. The campaign is already over for her.

A rising American stopped cold
Look at the timing and it stings even more. Moultrie was in the middle of a real season: five goals, five assists, 16 appearances, 15 of them starts. Portland sit fifth after 19 games.
The climb had been quick. A USA debut in 2023. Five goals in 18 caps. A Concacaf W Gold Cup in 2024, SheBelieves Cup titles in 2024 and 2026, US Young Female Player of the Year in 2023. The label of next big thing fit her fine.
A calendar that just got heavier
Recovery from ACL surgery runs in months, not weeks. That math wipes out the Concacaf Women’s Championship in November and December. It also puts a question mark over the 2027 Women’s World Cup, which opens in June in Brazil. “Olivia is one of the most determined players I’ve worked with,” said sporting director Jeff Agoos. Determination does not speed up a healing knee, and Portland know it.
