Just another day. Then a deal gets done.
Nothing wild in Chicago. No nine-figure monster contract. Just a young forward being kept around. The Blackhawks have extended Oliver Moore. Five years. $4.25 million per season. A total of $21.25 million. The new deal kicks in from the 2027-28 season.
Nothing flashy in the raw numbers. Five goals. Fourteen assists. Nineteen points in 51 games last season. A depth role, accepted, with no real sparkle. But Chicago has decided to back him for the long haul.
Try it for $0.99.
Looking back
2023. 19th pick in the draft. Two seasons at the University of Minnesota. 66 points in 77 college games, with 21 goals and 45 assists. Then an entry-level deal signed in March 2025. And a skating burst that stands out, a quick shift from defence to attack, plus a feel for the game that already caught the eye in his first extended run in the NHL.
The fee tells a different story. About $2.35 million a year less than Frank Nazar’s deal, another young Blackhawks prospect who is already more dangerous going forward. The message is clear. Chicago is betting on Moore before it really knows what he will become. Top-six center one day? Reliable third-liner? Still very much up in the air.
The continuity play
The Blackhawks are going through a long, patient, at times thankless rebuild. In a project like this, every contract matters. Five years to work with. Chicago is betting on time. Moore, meanwhile, now has to prove it on the ice.
