NFL: Olave cashes in, Saints lock him up through 2030

$33 million a year for a receiver who keeps landing in the training room

Ninety million guaranteed. That is what New Orleans just handed Chris Olave, and it tells you how badly this team needed to keep him. The two sides settled on a four-year extension Thursday, worth $132 million, and Olave is a Saint through 2030.

His new average annual salary sits at $33 million. That slots him sixth among the league’s highest-paid wideouts, level with DK Metcalf in Pittsburgh. New Orleans had already exercised his fifth-year option back in April, so the $15.49 million he collects from 2026 was locked in well before any of this.

The talent was never the question

Three 1,000-yard seasons in four years. Last year he set career highs across the board, 100 catches, 1,163 yards, nine touchdowns in 16 games. On the field, Olave does the job of a genuine number one.

Off it, the worry never really leaves. He sat out the final game of last season with a blood clot in his lung and has been on blood thinners since. Two concussions wiped out half of his 2024. The Saints know every line of that history. They paid anyway, which says plenty about how thin their options were.

A rebuild that needed a face

Taken 11th out of Ohio State in 2022, Olave already carries 3,728 yards and 19 touchdowns across 55 games. He is 26. For a franchise that has spent two years hunting for an identity, he is the closest thing they have to a starting point.
