Football: Nuñez says European fixtures in France will go ahead

No doubt over PSG-Barça

The football matches will go ahead. Interior minister Laurent Nuñez ruled out on Monday any rethink over holding upcoming fixtures, as security forces remain heavily mobilised in the face of violence and looting.

He was speaking at Matignon during a press briefing alongside Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu. According to him, “the question does not arise” for Tuesday night’s match between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona, in Paris.

Lille also concerned

The minister extended that message to other European fixtures scheduled in the coming days, naming Lille’s among them. “The matches are not in question,” he insisted.

The clarification comes as security forces remain heavily mobilised. It aims to remove any doubt over upcoming fixtures going ahead, starting with PSG-Barça on Tuesday night.
