Nine different targets, two touchdowns, one spot in the record book
Noah Fifita spread the ball to nine receivers in Tucson on Saturday night. Two of those throws went for touchdowns, and by the time he came off he had climbed to second on Arizona’s all-time passing list. The Wildcats beat Northern Arizona 35-7.
His line: 22 of 29 for 262 yards. He watched the fourth quarter from the sideline with the game long decided.
Fifita now leads all active FBS quarterbacks with 75 career touchdown passes. Another 567 yards puts him past Nick Foles at the top of the Arizona list.

Minus seven rushing yards, a first in nearly two decades
Northern Arizona ended the night in the red on the ground. Arizona had not held anyone to negative rushing yardage since 2006.
Ty Pennington went 15 of 26 for 180 yards, took five sacks and threw a pick. The Lumberjacks offense never got into the end zone at all.
Arizona ran for 206 and finished with 520 yards of total offense. Kedrick Reescano scored twice, both from a yard out. That is five season openers in a row the Wildcats have won.
Three scores in the first four drives, and it was already over
Fifita hit Tre Spivey for 20 yards on the opening possession, then found Brandon Phelps from 21 early in the second quarter. He came up inches short on a keeper a few drives later and Reescano punched it in. Halftime: 21-0, 304 yards to 125.
Antwan Roberts Jr., in from Marshall, ran 14 yards for 28-0 with 5:01 left in the third. Reescano’s second came with 13:52 on the clock.
The shutout got away thanks to a Northern Arizona defensive play. Noble Young-Blackgoat picked off backup Sawyer Anderson and took it 36 yards the other way with 10:55 to go. The Lumberjacks host Incarnate Word on September 12. Arizona start Big 12 play the same day at BYU.
