NFL: Nick Chubb calls it quits at 30

One Instagram post, and that’s that

No press conference. No team statement. Just a late-night Instagram post, and Nick Chubb has called time on his NFL career.

“I’ve known it for a while, but I’m finally ready to say it: I’m done with football.” That’s how a four-time Pro Bowl running back walks away from the league at 30.

There was barely any suspense left. Injuries had chewed through his final seasons. The production followed the same slide.

Cleveland, seven years, 6,843 yards

Chubb will always mean Cleveland first. Seven seasons with the Browns. 6,843 rushing yards. Four straight years over 1,000 yards, with a Pro Bowl nod each time.

He finishes as the third-leading rusher in franchise history. Only Jim Brown, with 12,312 yards, and Leroy Kelly, with 7,274, stand ahead of him. Not bad company.

And he did it in a team that mostly lost. Two playoff trips, five losing seasons during his run. On Sundays in Cleveland, Chubb was often the only thing worth watching. A second-round pick in 2018 out of Georgia, he made his mark straight away with 996 yards as a rookie.

Houston, then a message for the rest

2025 played out somewhere else. One season in Houston, 506 yards in 15 games, nine of them starts. The body just wasn’t keeping up anymore.

For his career: 7,349 yards, 54 touchdowns, 1,462 carries, 5.0 yards a pop. That average, more than anything, tells you what kind of back he was.

In his post, he had a message for the players still out there. “To all my brothers still in it, still in the fire: there is life waiting for you after football too. And health is the real wealth.” He says he leaves without regrets, even if he’d have liked a few things to go differently.
